Letter from the Chair

At the recent AGM, which was very well attended, Richard Bray stood down from the chair and I took his place. I want to thank Richard, not only for guiding the group over the past year but also for the energy he gives to the group in many other ways. Thanks go to all the other hard working members of our committee whose efforts keep the group so vibrant and active. We were also pleased to welcome two members of the group who have now joined the committee - Jenny and Mark.

After 40 plus years in Shawbury Village Players I am still amazed at the new ideas (and sometimes recycled and refreshed old ideas) that members bring forward, along with their keenness to develop and implement them for the benefit of the public and for our enjoyment- long may this continue.

An excellent job has been done in sorting out the costume studio by Chris Fraser and helpers and we now know what we have and, more importantly, where it is in the room!

There are exciting times ahead as rehearsals are underway for this year’s summer production of Agatha Christie’s ‘And Then There Were None’ at Acton Reynald at the end of June and our young people’s production of Anniversary of Camelot in July - again thanks are offered to the members of the group who spend precious time on Sundays running a successful workshop for existing and new junior members of the group and giving two of young people the confidence and know how to take on the direction of their play.

At the recent meeting several more proposals were made for future productions so it looks as if there is a busy time ahead with these and in keeping the group abreast of all the legislation that applies to us and also keeping up with technological improvements which allow us to offer an even better performance to our loyal audience.

Looking forward to seeing you at Acton Reynald!
